GIFT – Giving in the Finest Tradition
Gift was born in the winter of 1995 as a community-based charitable organization. The organization was initially formed to provide a vehicle for people to participate in local charitable activities. In its 16 years of existence, GIFT has contributed thousands of dollars and volunteer hours to various causes in and around the greater Washington Metropolitan Area. Some of the activities GIFT has and continues to participate in include:
- Serving meals at Leesburg’s soup kitchen,
- Serving meals at Reston’s Embry Rucker Homeless Shelter and the Western Fairfax Hypothermia Center,
- Providing valentines for Children’s Hospital,
- Raising money on behalf of multiple sclerosis, AIDS, juvenile diabetes, cancer, Leukemia/Lymphoma, breast cancer, SIDS, birth defects, heart disease and stroke,
- Work with local charities to provide meals for families during Thanksgiving,
- Work with local charities on holiday projects in Loudoun and Fairfax counties,
- Provide warm coats during the winter,
- Support inner city children the opportunity to participate in summer camps,
- Provide mentoring services for local elementary schools,
- Provide assistance in support of local special Olympic activities,
- Support The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life,
- Assist local emergency needs such as Hurricane Katrina, etc.
GIFT is able to perform these and other activities through volunteer members and financial support from family, friends, and fundraisers. All contributions are appreciated and can be sent to the attention of Brad Short at the American College of Radiology, 1891 Preston White Drive, Reston, VA 20191.
